saint valentino

father forgive me for i have sinned...it has been five months since my last blog post. lately i haven't felt the need to document anything inspiring or beautiful because it was enough to just see it or feel it. today that changed! valentino's fall 2012 rtw collection made me spring from my winter hibernation into full-on "must document it!" mode. i've been scanning the collections looking for that one to kick my style butt into gear and i have finally found it.

perfectly feminine, tastefully classic and oh-so chic are my thoughts on these amazing dresses (and full-body lace jumpsuit, i might add!). my favourite collections are always the ones that i see myself in...that personify parts of my style that i had always imagined...now in a tangible outfit! well tangible to the eye anyways.

it's like i see them and think "oh yes, you were in my dreams last night! nice to see you again...i had forgotten how perfect you were!"

behold the beauty!

the collection reminds me what i love about style...the fact that something so simple and classic holds a greater wow factor than something trying so hard to be fashionable. it comes down to the pieces that make you feel beautiful and like you're living in a dreamworld every day of your life. now, if someone would just hand over that flowing pink dress, i'll be off to those sweet sweet dreams!

draw me a sheep

A few months ago I worked on a children's fashion shoot for the online magazine Babiekins (http://www.babiekinsmag.com). The theme of the shoot was le Petit Prince, which was one of my favourite books and a character referenced in my own thesis book "The Character of Fashion". I feel very attached to this story so I loved having the opportunity to reimagine it with two adorable children. I was specifically inspired by the characters in the book; the pilot, the king, the fox, the rose and of course the prince. I also loved the opportunity to collaborate with my dear friend Amanda Leal, who did all the props. Our studio was filled with magical little things for a few weeks and her work is always so playful and nostalgic. Check out the photos, photographed by Lise Varrette.

shell game

Just made this mood board for the kids in my fashion camp. A seashell theme is what you get when you're in an office all day dreaming of summer fun! Wishing for scalloped pastels and sea water shimmer...

the jagger edge

with the rise of Studio-54 glam fashion, images of Bianca Jagger have been referenced like no other. While I love her classic style, Halston and all, I can't get enough of her headpieces. She obviously mastered the art of dressing simplistially chic, providing the perfect canvas for these accessories.

everyone's gone to the moon

with tonight's full moon, i'm dreaming of starshine and moonbeams here at work. I've been making a lesson plan on vintage fashion and can't stop looking up pictures of futuristic fashion from the 1930's and 1960's. Also been lusting over Peter Pilotto's bag collection with Kipling and his woman-on-the-moon collections. Here is a collection of my favourite celestial fashion images I've stumbled upon today, from one moon child to another.

compose yourself

love the composition of these two David Slijper images.

abstract bun art

while working away at the studio I threw my hair up and after catching a glimpse of myself I decided I must be an abstract bun artiste.

medusa would be proud.

and now...another bun I want to master.

squeaky clean

this series by Pamela Hanson puts some of my favourite things together; fashion, cats, bunny ears, and believe it or not...cleaning! nothing like an afternoon spent inside, playing your favourite records and getting the living quarters whipped into shape!

sigh, versailles

These shoes aren't new, but I still can't stop drooling over them.

bombay jewels

I bought my first Ranjana Khan necklace on the weekend and since have been staring at my online bank account with furrowed brow trying to figure out how I can buy more of her beautiful pieces! I'll definately have to wait a year or two, but it's nice to have a something to look forward to :)
Check out her beautiful embroidery and craftsmanship.
